Ok how in the hell do you run a new line through an attic to an air-conditioner the line has to come out of an eve theres no way to transition from romex to single strand without one touching the wrong area.

NM cant be run in damp/wet locations. Conduit is irrelevant. Inside its fine, even required in certain situations.

Wow, just WOW! As someone who will tackle simple tasks like replacing a worn out switch or outlet, I hesitate to go above that level of wiring for obvious reasons. From a DIY's standpoint I am certain that there is NO difference between the NEC and the bible. In both cases there is one book, many sects and 500 interpretations of what it means. How long until various factions band together, create their flags and meet on the battle field? The only uncertainty is the location of holy sites where battles can take place and/or miracles happen? Tesla's grave site? Wardencliff NJ perhaps? We all know that Edison was a false prophet by stealing inventions and killing elephants. Westinghouse followed Tesla so....... My guess is that sometime in the future an apprentice will have a revelation and wake up one morning after Tesla spoke to him or her in a dream with a complete understanding of the entire NEC? When this person attempts to spread the one and only correct way of completing every task though, a group of non-agreer's will crucify them on an electric pole with a MET-ED transformer? The true believers will carry on though, and hopefully have spread enough gospel to one day make the service panel a better place to work? Where or who is this messiah? The world needs them now!

I have a Stab Loc and the double 50 Amp breaker to the stove continuously comes loose and the stove cuts off while cooking. I have to go to the basement to wiggle it to come back on. Will a new breaker fix this or do I need a whole new box?

Is the fan UL listed? Also is the ground screw on the bracket necessary if the box is grounded and the fan ground is attached to the EGC? Isn't that redundant at that point just wondering as I was under the impression it was unnecessary in this case and if not I better start wrapping them up too.

You completely blew off two limitations. Manufacturers recommendations and pull resistant. If you don’t understand what I’m talking about then take this video down. The pull resistance issue is serious enough that every jurisdiction I’ve worked in specifically prohibits your crazy idea

Tell you what. In November 2023, I installed an FS140 to my new electrical service panel. The cost was just under $225 for the protector, I am happy about that. Not even a year later, they are selling for almost $450. I found an SFPD140 online for less than $100 currently. I am considering ordering that as a back up to install if the FS140 should fail. Just thought I'd pass on this tidbit of information if anyone was curious. Cheers.

Good video. I just found this. I went through this a few years ago and waffled between the portable and permanent for a while. Finally I was about to pull the trigger on a 24kw permanent installation and looked things like consumption, maintenance and how much energy I actually consume. They are, as you say a pig! I'm all electric but have a 120gallon propane tank that runs a space heater. That 24kw unit would drain that tank in no time. And the only time I need 24kw is to start the heat pump. Most of the time I'm only using a few kw. Another issue with the permanent is even if you do all the maintenance what happens if it drops a valve or burns out a bearing ? You can't go down to NAPA (not a sponsor) to get a replacement. And all the maintenance/repair is at the unit, in the 'elements' ... during an ice storm, a heatwave, or a flood. Or even at your leisure grovelling around on the ground. If you want that 'turn-key' automatic operation many of us want (and that is not a bad thing) you need to see what kind of support (ongoing maintenance and repair agreements, turnaround, spare parts availability etc). My electrician said they install permanent generators but they don't maintain them. In the end I had the electrician install a 50amp generator inlet and a sub-panel feeding specific circuits (with an interlocking device). A 10kw portable generator that I run off propane cylinders (long story but the propane people out where I am don't like generator people lol). If the portable generator croaks I can wheel in another one. Of course that was two years ago and the last outage (after a winter storm) was over 3.

What a bunch of bull shit. FP panels are safe if installed properly and the bolts that hold the cover on are securely screwed in. The problem arises when there is insufficient pressure from the cover to hold the CBs pin against the buss bar. This can cause arcing creating temperatures as hot as the sun. The heat builds up inside the CB and melts or deforms the casing which can keep the CB from tripping. The CPSC investigated FP in 1983. Here is their findings. "The Consumer Product Safety Commission announced today that it is closing its two year investigation into Federal Pacific Electric Stab-lok type residential circuit breakers. This action was taken because the data currently available to the Commission does not establish that the circuit breakers pose a serious risk of injury to consumers." Nuf said.

You should be minimizing the length between the surge protector and the panel. Ideally you want to mount it into a CB at the first position from where the L1/L2 Enters. Shorter length = better protection.

What are the dry contact #18 wires for on the fspd?

So at 7:30, 24" lead with twist yields 600v. Not 36", but 24" is great for side mounting. I am playing wackamole on other electrician spd conversations, where this issue is posed but not resolved. I refer people to here.

I love this Vortexx R single phase. Not all of their R and Hurricane spd's have thermal protection, look for TFMOV in specs. The double tap, for Type 1 line side connection, is supposed to be made with the spade under the conductor, docu says. Weird, yes. I collected different 1/4"-20 thread options to use on bus studs, one option being thin jam nuts, another being threaded rod connectors and a hex screw. I looked at Harley faring standoffs, similar idea. Also looked at non-crimp non-toothy set screw connectors, some insulated, but those connect directly to feeder...a commenter posited using toothy screw down on feeder, no way that here.

Natural gas is not volatile enough to start a cold engine a portable generator is your best bet.

I am planning for a 24000 BTU Mini Split in Texas. 240v 30amp I have room in the breaker box. Based upon another of your videos, I can run 10/2 NM romex from breaker and transition to J-box with #10 wires thru conduit for the outside run to a disconnect. Or Can I run 10/2 UF-B from the breaker box thru the attic and transition to 3/4" conduit for the outside run to a disconnect? 100 ' of UF-B wire roll is $137 at Lowes. Romex NM is $188.
